NJC 97S05 Reunion
Flashback to 2 Jan 1997 (Thursday), we started our first 3 months orientation at NJC in a group of 23 other individuals at 97S05. Little did we know that this would span a lifelong friendship of 25 years and counting.
Our class took the Double Maths, Economics and Physics combination of subjects and comprised 12 boys and 12 girls. We joined in NJC in 1997 which was the year the NJC Bridge Club was launched and an informal version of Bridge was our favourite game where we pitted our telepathic and analytic skills against each other! We also bonded over Char Kway Tiao, canteen food and other mini escapades at a secret corner of the school (after lessons of course ;p).
After completing our A levels, some of us kept in touch regularly within small groups while but lost touch with others during the busy university days. As fate would have it and with technology advancements, we set up a Whatsapp group chat in August 2013 and it has been active on a daily basis ever since! We still meet regularly over lunches, dinners, weddings, and babies’ 1st month celebrations! Even Covid-19 didn’t stop our bonding and we continued to connect electronically. With the cessation of Covid-19 measures and it being our 25th Anniversary, we decided to take a nostalgic trip back to the school on 26 November 2022 (with approval!) for a gathering with our favourite Physics Tutor, Mr Koh Chong Mong. Despite bearing the brunt of his lecturing many years ago, we are especially grateful that he never gave up on us. Special thanks to the school for allowing us to use the school canteen for the gathering and facilitating the security clearance as well!
